Every date on the City of Lucas holiday calendar lands on one short stretch of Country Club Road. The donation bins are in the lobby of City Hall at 665 Country Club Road. The tree lighting is at Lucas Community Park. One of the two shuttle lots for that night is Hart Elementary at 450 Country Club Road. All of it is laid out in the city's November Lucas Leader newsletter.
That stretch of road matters past December, too. Country Club Road is the eastern end of the West Lucas Road widening, which the city calls the largest roadway investment in its history. On Parker Road, a Tom Thumb has been under construction since at least March, and the developer's projected opening window falls in the same quarter as the holidays.
The Dates, by Deadline
| Date | What | Where |
|---|---|---|
| November 2 to December 4 | Holiday donation drive | City Hall lobby, 665 Country Club Road |
| November 26 | Thanksgiving Day | |
| November 27 | City Hall closed | 665 Country Club Road |
| December 4, 6 to 9 p.m. | Country Christmas and the Lucas Farmers Market Holiday Market | Lucas Community Park |
| December 11 | Giving Tree gifts due | City Hall |
City Hall closes on the Friday after Thanksgiving, so a lobby drop-off planned for that long weekend has to happen earlier in the week or on the following Monday. The general donation drive ends the same evening as Country Christmas. The Giving Tree runs one week longer.
What the City Hall Lobby Takes
The 2026 Holiday Donation Drive collects for several Collin County organizations at once. Each one has its own list.
- Collin County Toys for Tots: New, unwrapped toys for children and teenagers. The campaign cannot accept used items, realistic-looking weapons, or gifts that contain food.
- All Community Outreach (ACO): Nonperishable food. The suggested items are canned vegetables, cranberry sauce, canned pumpkin, soups, stuffing mix, instant potatoes, gravy, baking mixes and other pantry staples. $15 grocery gift cards are also welcome.
- Collin County Animal Shelter: Unopened bags or cans of dog and cat food.
- Family Promise of Collin County: Laundry supplies, toiletries, cleaning products, and gift cards to Walmart, Target, RaceTrac, QuikTrip or Uber, for families working toward housing stability.
The Giving Tree works differently. You take a tag from the tree at City Hall, buy the item written on it, and return it new and unwrapped by December 11. The items stock ACO's Care Center and include household goods, clothing, toiletries and cleaning supplies.
The toy, food and pet-food drives all close on December 4. That makes a drop-off on the afternoon of Country Christmas cutting it close. Most households will find it easier to bring donations to City Hall on a weekday in November.
December 4 Is a Park-and-Ride Night
Country Christmas runs Friday, December 4, from 6 to 9 p.m. at Lucas Community Park. Mayor Dusty Kuykendall leads the tree lighting. The city has also scheduled visits with Santa, its 10-foot snow slide and snow play area, two live reindeer, holiday entertainment and children's activities. Kodiak Fire Protection is this year's presenting sponsor.
The park itself has very little parking. The city requires guests to park at one of two shuttle lots:
- Hart Elementary, 450 Country Club Road
- Lovejoy High School, 2350 Estates Parkway
Shuttles are scheduled to start at 5:30 p.m., and the last return shuttle leaves at 9:30 p.m. The event opens at 6, so families who want a spot near the tree should be in a shuttle lot well before then. If the snow slide is the main event for your household, keep the 9:30 cutoff in mind.
The Farmers Market's One Evening
The Lucas Farmers Market ran its regular 2026 season on the second and fourth Saturdays, 8 a.m. to noon, from April 25 through October 24. The city's October newsletter listed October 24 as the last market of the season.
The next chance to shop it is the evening Holiday Market inside Country Christmas. The city describes it as a market for unique gifts and handmade goods from local vendors. For anyone who missed the Saturday mornings since late October, December 4 is also the market's one evening of the year. Bring the gift list along with the coats.
The Same Road Is About to Become a Work Zone
The West Lucas Road Widening Project runs from FM 2551, which is Angel Parkway, to Country Club Road. That puts the project's eastern end on the same road as City Hall, Community Park and the Hart Elementary shuttle lot. Collin County lists those limits on its roadway projects page.
In his November message, Mayor Kuykendall calls the project a more-than-$19 million investment and the largest roadway project in the city's history. He writes that it is fully funded without new debt or a tax increase.
The timing has moved. A City of Lucas update posted October 21 set a tentative start for construction and excavation on Monday, October 26, and said that date could change. The November newsletter came out later and describes the work as preliminary. Surveying, utility locates and other preparation were underway, and full roadway construction had not begun.
The city has said it will post construction schedules, traffic impacts, closures and detours through its News Flash updates. If you drive West Lucas Road to Angel Parkway, those posts and the city's notification subscriptions are the place to watch through December. That matters most on Country Christmas night, when both shuttle routes run in the evening toward the Country Club Road end of the corridor.
The Grocery Run Is Changing on Parker Road
The project with the biggest effect on everyday errands is on Parker Road. A Tom Thumb is going up at Lucas Crossing, on the northwest corner of Parker Road and Southview Drive, at 8325 E. Parker Road.
Here is how that project stands on paper:
- Size: About 59,655 square feet, according to the state's Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation project record. The same record gives an estimated completion date of December 1, 2026. That is a construction estimate. It is not a store opening date.
- Opening window: The developer projects the Tom Thumb will open in the fourth quarter of 2026. The site plan also includes 45,000 square feet of inline retail plus pad sites around the grocery store.
- Construction: The Dallas Business Journal reported in March 2026 that construction was already underway.
The larger plan around the store is older. Local Profile reported in April 2025 on a 42-acre development at Parker Road and Southview Drive. The plan called for a grocery-anchored center, a 25,000-square-foot restaurant village and additional pad sites. That describes what was planned, not what is built.
The developer has also noted that traffic on Southview is expected to increase once the grocery store opens. Traffic counts there are already about 11,600 vehicles a day on Parker and 12,575 on Southview. For anyone who drives through that corner on the way to school pickup or holiday shopping, those counts are the baseline the new store adds to.
